Red Bull – the repeat offenders.

With Red Bull you’d expect to talk about what has so far been an encouraging test in Barcelona, with good pace and reliability being shown.
However they have really frustrated me and left me feeling entirely underwhelmed.
The first images they released of their car had it in a special livery, something completely different to their usual appearance. Something that looked exciting and different. But as soon as testing started they released it in their same old what I consider quite boring livery – oh except it’s with a matte finish.
This isn’t the first time they have done this either. In 2015 they revealed their car for testing in a camouflage livery. Once again I really liked this, it was something entirely different to F1 – and yet again come the start of the season it was pretty much back to the usual.

Come on Red Bull! You have arguably the most exciting driver line up on the grid. Let your car appearance match!
Some friends who regard themselves as ‘casual F1 fans’ have said to me they saw this initial livery and they were actually interested in following the sport. It was something entirely new to them. Now they have seen the usual livery they have lost interest again. To them it looks exactly the same.
Formula One has some of the world’s very best designers so please, make some liveries exciting. Formula One is trying to gain new interest in to the motorsport, maybe this is a doorway. Something that might not generally be considered important can make a big difference in the aesthetics of the sport.
